The Cost of Freedom

Many people think of Memorial Day as the beginning of summer.  But lets not forget what it's really all about.

They selflessly paid the ultimate price.

And while we're at it, we could take some time to pray for the men and women of our armed forces all over the world who cannot be with their families on this holiday because they continue to fight to keep us free.

And as long as we're praying we should remember the families and loved ones who are celebrating this holiday without their husband, wife, son, daughter, mother, father, aunt, uncle, cousin, neighbor,or friend.

I pray that they are blessed with the safe return of their personal heroes, but if things should turn out differently, I pray for them to be blessed with the peace that passes all understanding - knowing that their loved one gave their life willingly and without reserve, simply because they believed in preserving our freedom no matter the cost.

Please take a look at this video - it pretty much says it all.  And while you're watching... remember...honor them... pray for those they've left behind, and pray for those soldiers still on the front lines.

God bless you all and have a great Memorial Day, and a wonderful week ahead.
Thanks for reading!

The Shadow of the Almighty

This is my absolute favorite Psalm. They say a picture is worth a thousand words...
and this is how I feel when I read it.

Psalm 91 in Hebrew

The Light of the World

In His Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5, Jesus begins with the Beatitudes. You've all heard them - and perhaps even taken them to heart. There is a wealth of blessing within these poetic words, but many people disregard what comes right after the Beatitudes. This morning while reading further, I was reminded that we, as Christians, are supposed to "let our light shine."

Jesus gave this example: "You are the light of the world.  A city on a hill cannot be hidden.

Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl.

Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.

In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven."  Matthew 5:13-16

I have been moved to do a blog that hopefully does exactly that...let my light shine. My intention is not to judge or to cram my beliefs down anyone's throat.  I only want to keep a record of my own journey - and I would  like to share new discoveries as I travel through life: insights into the Word of God, lessons learned, blessings, divine interventions, and anything else that I feel the Lord is teaching me.

I am not planning to advertise this blog the same way as I do my writer's blog. Instead, I'd like to trust the Lord to lead people here in His own way and in His own timing as He sees fit.  I believe this is something He has led me to do, and  I have no idea how often - or even what I will be posting.  My prayer is that He will guide me so that the words I write, the scriptures I quote, the stories I tell, and even the pictures I post are exactly what He knows someone, somewhere needs to see.

So for now, in this modest beginning, I will share with you a verse that I have placed right in the middle of my refrigerator door as a reminder of what is expected of me each and every day.  It is amazing how simple it sounds, and I love how beautifully it is summed up in two sentences:

Thank you for visiting.
